The Juristic Office of the Institution of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), issued a statement concerning the beginning of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal 1446 AH. Following is the text of the statement:
The new crescent moon of the month of Rabi' al-Awwal for the year 1446 AH (central conjunction) will be born on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 01:55 AM, GMT, 04:55 AM Beirut time.
As shown in the attached image, the crescent will be visible on Tuesday evening (the night of Wednesday) with the naked eye in regions where we do not share part of the night, and with the naked eye, provided the sky is clear and the observer is experienced in some parts of northwestern South America, and with the armed eye (optical aid) in the western part of Africa and other regions. Additionally, considering the completion of the month of Safar, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, will be the first day of Rabi' al-Awwal 1446 AH.
This is in accordance with the jurisprudential basis of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who ruled that the month begins if the crescent can be seen in any part of the world with which we share part of the night, whether with the naked eye or with optical aid, along with the completion of the month’s count.
We ask Allah, the Most Exalted, to bring relief to our nation and guide us to what He loves and is pleased with. Indeed, He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
