Statement of the Religious Authority Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Month of Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH
The new crescent of the month of Jumada al-Ula for the year 1448 AH (central conjunction) will be born on Saturday, October 10, 2026 AD, at 03:50 p.m. GMT, which is 06:50 p.m. according to the summer time of the city of Beirut.
As noted in the above-mentioned picture, sighting the new crescent on Saturday evening (the night of Sunday) is not possible except in regions with which we do not share a part of the night. Accordingly, Sunday, October 11, 2026, will complete the thirty days of the month of Rabi' al-Thani. Consequently, Monday, October 12, 2026, will be the first day of the month of Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH due to the completion of thirty days of the previous month.
Additionally, sighting the new crescent on Sunday evening (the night of Monday) is possible, as shown in the second attached picture (below). The new crescent can be sighted easily with the naked eye in all regions of South America and some parts of the southern section of the African continent. It can also be sighted with the naked eye, subject to clear skies and observer expertise, in some regions of North America, the central part of the African continent, and the southwestern part of Australia. Furthermore, it can be sighted with the armed eye in the northern part of North America, the northern part of the African continent, and some regions located in the eastern hemisphere. Thus, the beginning of the month will be on Monday, October 12, 2026, both on the basis of completing thirty days of the preceding month and on the ground of sighting.
This is according to the jurisprudential opinion of his Eminence, the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who views that the month begins if it is possible to sight the crescent in any region of the world, provided that we share a part of the night with it, without difference between sighting with the naked eye and with the armed eye.
We ask Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, for the goodness of this world and the Hereafter, relief, honor, and dignity, as well as the repelling of the enemy's plots and protection for our nation; indeed, He is All-Hearing, All-Answering.
