Statement of the Religious Authority Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Month of Jumada al-Thania 1448 AH
The new crescent of the month of Jumada al-Thania for the year 1448 AH (central conjunction) will be born on Monday, the ninth of November for the year 2026 AD, at 07:02 a.m. GMT, which is 09:02 a.m. according to the winter time of the city of Beirut.
As noted in the above-mentioned picture, sighting the new crescent on Monday evening (the night of Tuesday) is possible with the naked eye, subject to clear skies and observer expertise, as in some regions of the southern part of South America, and with the armed eye, as in most northern regions of South America. Therefore, the first day of the month of Jumada al-Thania will be on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, for the regions that share a part of the night with the sighting regions, and on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, for the regions that do not share a part of the night.
This is according to the jurisprudential opinion of his Eminence, the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who views that the month begins if it is possible to sight the crescent in any region of the world, provided that we share a part of the night with it, without difference between sighting with the naked eye and with the armed eye.
Furthermore, On Tuesday evening (the night of Wednesday), the new crescent can be sighted with the naked eye in most regions of the world.
