The new crescent of the month of Muharram al-Haram for the year 1448 AH (central conjunction) will be born on Monday, the fifteenth of the month of June for the year 2026 AD. The birth will occur at 02:54 a.m. GMT (before dawn of Monday), which is 05:54 a.m. according to the summer time of the city of Beirut.
As noted in the above-mentioned picture, sighting the new crescent on Monday evening (the night of Tuesday) is possible with the naked eye, or subject to clear skies in Central America, most of North America, the northern part of South America, the northwestern part of Africa, and some regions of Europe. It is also possible with the armed eye, as in regions of Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Therefore, the beginning of the new Hijri year and the first day of the month of Muharram al-Haram will be Tuesday, June 16, 2026, for all regions that share a part of the night with the sighting regions, which includes all regions of the world. This is according to the jurisprudential opinion of his Eminence, the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who views that the month begins if it is possible to sight the crescent in any region of the world, provided we share with it a part of the night, without difference between sighting with the naked eye and with the armed eye.
