The Birth of the Noble Messenger (p.)
Name: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib ibn Hashim ibn Abd Manaf ibn Qusayy ibn Kilab ibn Murrah ibn Ka'b ibn Lu'ayy ibn Ghalib ibn Fihr ibn Malik ibn al-Nadr ibn Kinanah ibn Khuzaymah ibn Mudrikah ibn Ilyas ibn Mudar ibn Nizar ibn Ma'ad ibn Adnan. The Seal of the Prophets, the Master of Messengers, and the foremost of all creation, from the first to the last.
His Birth (p.): He was born at dawn on Monday, the 17th of Rabi' al-Awwal, in the Year of the Elephant—according to the well-known view among Imami scholars—corresponding to the year 570 CE. Other dates have also been suggested.
His Father: Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib, who passed away a few months before the Prophet's birth while returning from a trading journey to Syria.
His Mother: Aminah bint Wahb.
His Kunyah (Patronymic): Abu al-Qasim.
His Titles: The Messenger, Al-Mukhtar (The Chosen One), Al-Mustafa (The Elect), Taha, Al-Sadiq (The Truthful), Al-Amin (The Trustworthy), and others.
His Prophetic Mission: At the age of forty, while in the Cave of Hira, the divine revelation came down to him. Allah commissioned him to call people to the faith, and to bring good news and warnings to all humanity. Allah, the Most Exalted says: "Indeed, We have sent you, [O Muhammad], with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner" (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:119). This was Allah's mercy, meant to guide people from darkness into light. As Allah also says: "A Messenger reciting to you the clear verses of Allah to bring those who believe and do righteous deeds out of darkness into light" (Surah At-Talaq, 65:11). The Prophet's message was not limited to monotheism and worship alone; rather, it covered all aspects of human life.
His Children:
- Al-Qasim — after whom he was called Abu al-Qasim. He was born in Mecca and died there in infancy.
- Abdullah — known as al-Tayyib and al-Tahir. He was born in Mecca and died there.
- Fatimah al-Zahra (a.s.) — born in Mecca after the advent of the prophetic mission.
- Ibrahim — born in Medina and passed away at the age of eighteen months.
As for Zaynab, Ruqayyah, and Umm Kulthum, there is scholarly disagreement as to whether they were his biological daughters or stepdaughters.
His Departure: He returned to his Lord on Monday, the 28th of Safar—according to the well-known view among Imami scholars—in the 11th year of the Hijrah, at the age of sixty-three. He was laid to rest in his chamber within the Noble Prophetic Mosque in Medina.
