Sajdat of Tilawah (The Recital Prostration)

Sajdat of Tilawah (The Recital Prostration)

It is obligatory to prostrate when reciting or listening to the recital of the following sajdah verses: As-Sajdah (32): 15, Fussilat (41): 37, An-Najm (53): 62 and Al-‘alaq (96): 19.

In addition to prostrating when listening to a person reciting any of them, it is obligatory to prostrate when listening to them from machines (i.e. radio, cassette recorders, VCRs, CDs and the computer) whether in Arabic or any other language.

The prostration must be repeated when the recital is repeated from its source time after time. This one must hasten to do where possible; otherwise, it can be delayed until it is possible.

How to

One should prostrate when he reads these above sajdah verses. It is the same as the prostration in prayers. One does not have to say anything in particular. He /she can say anything that glorifies God.
