Statement from the Sharia Office at the institution of The late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), regarding the determination of the beginning of the month of Sha’ban for the year 1446 AH:
The new moon of the month of Sha’ban for the year 1446 H will be born (central conjunction) on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 12:36 GMT, which corresponds to 02:36 PM Beirut time.
As seen in the abovementioned image , the sighting of the crescent on Wednesday evening is possible in some regions of South America, while it can be easily seen on Thursday evening by the naked eye, or if the weather is clear and the viewer is experienced in most parts of the world. Therefore, Thursday 30/01/2025, will be the beginning of the month of Sha’ban in the regions that share a part of the night with the regions in which it can be seen, and Friday 31/ 01/ 2025 is the first day in the regions that do not, according to the jurisprudential ruling of the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra) who considers the month to begin if the crescent can be sighted in any part of the world, provided we share part of the night with that region, whether the sighting is with the naked eye or with the armed one.
