Ramadan begins on Saturday, March 1st, 2025

Ramadan begins on Saturday, March 1st, 2025

Statement of the Religious Office of the Institution of the late Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra) regarding the beginning of the month of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH:

The crescent moon of the month of Ramadan for the year 1446 AH (the central conjunction) will be born on Friday, the twenty-eighth of February 2025, at 12:45 AM (before Friday dawn) Universal Time 2:45 AM (before Friday dawn), according to the local time of Beirut.

As seen in the attached map, on the night of Saturday (Friday evening), February 28th, 2025, the new moon can be seen in accordance to the attached map. Visibility varies: it may be easily visible to the naked eye, as in Central America, the southern part of North America, and the northern part of South America. In parts of South America and West Africa, it may be visible to the naked eye only if the sky is clear and the observer is experienced. In East and South Africa, parts of Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, it may be visible with the aid of binoculars or a telescope.

Therefore, the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan will be on March 1st, 2025 in every country that shares a part of the night with the regions where the crescent is visible. There is no difference in this matter between eastern and western regions. This is in accordance with the religious Fatwa of His Eminence, the late Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who believes that the month begins if it is possible to see the crescent moon in any region of the world, provided that we share a part of the night with it, without any difference between seeing with the naked eye and seeing with an armed one.
Oh God, make it a month of goodness, blessing, mercy, and forgiveness. Accept us as your guests and those freed from Hellfire. Accept our fasting, our prayers, and our deeds. Bless us, Grant the nation of your Prophet Muhammad (p.) Relief of suffering, and victory over the unjust people, by the blessing of your Prophet (p.) and his purified family (p.), O Most Merciful of the Merciful.
