Tuesday is the first day of Dhul Qidah 1446

April 29, 2025 AD

Statement from the Religious Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra) Regarding the Beginning of the Month of DulQidah, 1446AH

The new moon (central conjunction) of the month of Dhul Qidah, 1446 AH, will be born on Sunday, April 27, 2025 AD, at 7:31 PM Universal time, corresponding to 10:31 PM Beirut time.

As can be seen in the attached image, the crescent will not be visible on Sunday evening except through telescopic means in regions that do not share any part of the night with us. Thus, Monday will complete the 30th day of Shawwal, and on Monday evening the crescent will be easily visible with the naked eye in most parts of the world, and visible in other areas with clear skies or using telescopes

This means that Tuesday will be the first day of Dhul Qidah, 1446 AH , according to the jurisprudential opinion of His Eminence, the late Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), which holds that the new month begins if the crescent can be seen in any part of the world, provided that we share a part of the night with that region—regardless of whether it is seen with the naked eye or with the armed eyes. This is also in accordance with the completion of the full count of 30 days for the month of Shawwal.

We ask Allah, the Exalted, to remove affliction and to bring relief to our Ummah (nation), to grant it victory and honor, and to safeguard all the believers. Indeed, He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
