Statement of the Religious Authority Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Month of Jumada Al Awwal, 1447 AH.
The new crescent of the month of Jumada Al Awwal, 1447 H (central conjunction) will be born on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 12:25 p.m. Universal Time, corresponding to 03:25 p.m. Beirut summer time.
As shown in the above mentioned image, sighting the crescent on Tuesday evening (the night of Wednesday) is impossible except in regions with which we do not share any part of the night.
Therefore, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, will complete the thirtieth day of the month of Rabi' Al Thani. Consequently, Thursday, October 23, 2025, will be the first day of the month of Jumada Al Awwal, 1447 H, as the previous month will have completed thirty days.
This is based on the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who held that the month begins if the crescent can be sighted in any location in the world with which we share part of the night, regardless of whether the sighting is with the naked eye or with armed devices (such as telescopes).
