Statement of the Religious Authority Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Month of Rabi’ al-Thani, 1447 AH.
The new crescent of the month of Rabi‘ al-Thani, 1447 H (central conjunction) will be born on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 19:54 (7:54 p.m.) Universal Time, corresponding to 22:54 (10:54 p.m.) Beirut summer time
As shown in the above-mentioned image, sighting the crescent on Sunday evening (the night of Monday), September 21, 2025, is impossible in any region of the world.
Therefore, the month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal will be complete, and Monday will be its thirtieth day.
On Monday evening (the night of Tuesday), September 22, 2025, sighting the crescent becomes possible in many regions with the naked eye and with armed devices (such as telescopes), as follows:
With naked eye, provided the sky is clear and the observer is experienced: in the southern part of South America, in the northern part of South America, some areas of North America, and the southern part of the African continent.
With armed devices (such as telescopes): in the northern part of North America, some northern parts of the African continent, and other regions.
Accordingly, Tuesday, September 23, 2025 will be the first day of the month of Rabi‘ al-Thani, 1447 H, as it also marks the completion of the previous month.
This is based on the jurisprudential opinion of the late Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who held that the beginning of the month is established if the crescent can be sighted in any location in the world with which we share part of the night, regardless of whether the sighting is with the naked eye or with the armed one.
We ask Allah, the Most Exalted, for a better future, and for the glad tidings of relief and victory, by His kindness and His success. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
