Wednesday is the first day of the month of Ramadan 1447 AH

Wednesday, February 18, 2026

Statement of the Religious Authority Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Blessed Month of Ramadan, 1447 AH.

The new crescent of the month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH (central conjunction) will be born on Tuesday, the seventeenth of the month of February for the year 2026 AD. The birth will occur at 12:01 p.m. GMT, which is 02:01 p.m. according to the winter time of the city of Beirut.

As noted in the above-mentioned image, the new crescent (the crescent of Ramadan) cannot be sighted with the naked eye on Tuesday evening (the night of Wednesday). However, sighting is possible with the armed eye (such as telescopes) in some areas of Mexico and the United States of America, regions with which we share part of the night.

Accordingly, Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for all regions that share part of the night with the areas where sighting is possible.

While Thursday, February 19, 2026, will be the first day of the Holy month for regions that do not share part of the night with these areas. It should be noted that the area sharing part of the night with the regions of possible sighting extends approximately to the east of longitude 60° East.

This is according to the jurisprudential opinion of his Eminence, the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra). He views that the month begins if it is possible to sight the crescent in any region of the world, provided we share with it a part of the night. This is without difference between sighting with the naked eye and with the armed eye, in addition to completing the count of the previous month.

O Allah, bless us in the month of Ramadan, the month of blessing, goodness, and mercy. Grant us success in fasting, night prayers, reciting the Quran, and performing righteous deeds. Enable us to show compassion to orphans and the poor, uphold family ties, and embody noble characters. Accept it from us with the best acceptance. Relieve the nation of Your Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family, from hardship. Repel from us the schemes and evil of enemies. Unite us upon goodness, guidance, and the word of piety, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
