Praise be to Allah, who guided us to His praise and made us among its people, so that we may be among those who are thankful for His benevolence and so that He may recompense us with the reward of the good-doers.
Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi hadana li hamdihi, wa ja’alana min ahlihi li nakuna li ihsanihi minash-shakirin, wa li yajziyana ‘ala dhalika jazaa’al muhsinin.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِحَمْدِهِ ، وَ جَعَلَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ لِنَكُونَ لِإِحْسَانِهِ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ ، وَ لِيَجْزِيَنَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ جَزَاءَ الْمُحْسِنِينَ .
And praise be to Allah, who has endowed us with His religion, privileged us with His creed, and paved for us the paths of His benevolence, so that we may tread them by His grace to His pleasure—a praise that He accepts from us and with which He is pleased with us.
Wal hamdu lillahil-ladhi habana bi dinihi, wakhtassana bi millatihi, wa sabbalana fi subuli ihsanihi li naslukaha bi mannihi ila ridwanihi, hamdan yataqabbaluhu minna, wa yardha bihi ‘anna.
وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي حَبَانَا بِدِينِهِ ، وَ اخْتَصَّنَا بِمَلَّتِهِ، وَ سَبَّلَنَا فِي سُبُلِ إِحْسَانِهِ لِنَسْلُكَهَا بِمَنِّهِ إِلَى رِضْوَانِهِ ، حَمْداً يَتَقَبَّلُهُ مِنَّا ، وَ يَرْضَى بِهِ عَنَّا .
And praise be to Allah, who made from among those paths His month, the month of Ramadan: the month of fasting, the month of submission, the month of purity, the month of testing, the month of standing in prayer, in which the Qur’an was sent down as guidance for mankind and as clear proofs of guidance and the Criterion.
Wal hamdu lillahil-ladhi ja’ala min tilkas subuli shahrahu shahra Ramadana, shahras-siyam, wa shahral-islam, wa shahrat-tahur, wa shahrat-tamhis, wa shahral-qiyamal-ladhi unzila fil-hil Qur’anu, hudal-linnasi, wa bayyinatin minal-huda wal-furqan.
وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ مِنْ تِلْكَ السُّبُلِ شَهْرَهُ شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ ، شَهْرَ الصِّيَامِ ، وَ شَهْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ ، وَ شَهْرَ الطَّهُورِ ، وَ شَهْرَ التَّمْحِيصِ ، وَ شَهْرَ الْقِيَامِ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ فِيهِ الْقُرْآنُ ، هُدًى لِلنَّاسِ ، وَ بَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الْهُدَى وَ الْفُرْقَانِ
He thus made its virtue clear over all other months by the abundant sacred ordinances and the well-known excellences He placed within it. So, He made unlawful in it what He made lawful in others, out of honor for it; and He restricted foods and drinks in it, out of reverence for it.
Fa abana fadilatahu ‘ala sa’irish-shuhuri bima ja’ala lahu minal-hurumatil-mawfurah, wal-fada’ilil-mashhurah, fa harrama fihi ma ahalla fi ghayrihi i’zaman, wa hajara fil-hit-ta’ama wash-sharab ikraman.
فَأَبَانَ فَضِيلَتَهُ عَلَى سَائِرِ الشُّهُورِ بِمَا جَعَلَ لَهُ مِنَ الْحُرُمَاتِ الْمَوْفُورَةِ ، وَ الْفَضَائِلِ الْمَشْهُورَةِ ، فَحَرَّمَ فِيهِ مَا أَحَلَّ فِي غَيْرِهِ إِعْظَاماً ، وَ حَجَرَ فِيهِ الْمَطَاعِمَ وَ الْمَشَارِبَ إِكْرَاماً
And He appointed for it a clear time which He, Majestic and Mighty, does not permit to be advanced nor accepts to be delayed. Then He favored a single night from its nights over the nights of a thousand months and named it the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr).
Wa ja’ala lahu waqtan bayyinan la yujizu Jalla wa ‘Azza an yuqaddama qablahu, wa la yaqbalu an yu’akhkhara ‘anhu, thumma faddala laylatan wahidatan min layalihi ‘ala layali alfi shahrin, wa sammaha Laylatal-Qadr
وَ جَعَلَ لَهُ وَقْتاً بَيِّناً لَا يُجِيزُ جَلَّ وَ عَزَّ أَنْ يُقَدَّمَ قَبْلَهُ ، وَ لَا يَقْبَلُ أَنْ يُؤَخَّرَ عَنْهُ ، ثُمَّ فَضَّلَ لَيْلَةً وَاحِدَةً مِنْ لَيَالِيهِ عَلَى لَيَالِي أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ ، وَ سَمَّاهَا لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ
In it, the angels and the Spirit descend by their Lord’s leave with every command, a peace of constant blessing until the rising of dawn, upon whom He wills of His servants according to the decree He has firmly ordained.
Tanazzalul-mala’ikatu war-Ruhu fiha bi-ithni rabbihim min kulli amrin salamun, da’imul-barakati ila tulu’il-fajri ‘ala man yasha’u min ‘ibadihi bima ahkama min qada’ih.
تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَ الرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِمْ مِنْ كُلِّ أَمْرٍ سَلَامٌ ، دَائِمُ الْبَرَكَةِ إِلَى طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ عَلَى مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ بِمَا أَحْكَمَ مِنْ قَضَائِهِ .
O Allah, bless Muhammad and his Household, inspire us with knowledge of its excellence, veneration of its sanctity, and caution against what You have forbidden within it.
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa Alihi, wa alhimna ma’rifata fadlihi wa ijlala hurmatihi, wat-tahaffuza mimma harramta fihi.
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ، وَ أَلْهِمْنَا مَعْرِفَةَ فَضْلِهِ وَ إِجْلَالَ حُرْمَتِهِ ، وَ التَّحَفُّظَ مِمَّا حَظَرْتَ فِيهِ
And help us to fast in it by restraining our limbs from disobeying You and employing them in what pleases You, so that we do not lend our ears to idle talk, nor rush with our eyes to amusement.
Wa a’inna ‘ala siyamihi bi kaffil-jawarihi ‘an ma’asika, waisti’maliha fihi bima yardhika, hatta la nusghiya bi asma’ina ila laghwin, wa la nusri’a bi absarina ila lahwin.
وَ أَعِنَّا عَلَى صِيَامِهِ بِكَفِّ الْجَوَارِحِ عَنْ مَعَاصِيكَ ، وَ اسْتِعْمَالِهَا فِيهِ بِمَا يُرْضِيكَ حَتَّى لَا نُصْغِيَ بِأَسْمَاعِنَا إِلَى لَغْوٍ ، وَ لَا نُسْرِعَ بِأَبْصَارِنَا إِلَى لَهْوٍ
And so that we do not stretch our hands to anything forbidden, nor step with our feet toward anything prohibited; so that our stomachs hold only what You have made lawful, and our tongues speak only what You have exemplified.
Wa hatta la nabsuta aydeena ila mahdhurin, wa la nakhtuwa bi aqdamina ila mahjurin, wa hatta la ta’iya butununa illa ma ahallta, wa la tantiqu alsinatuna illa bima maththaltha.
وَ حَتَّى لَا نَبْسُطَ أَيْدِيَنَا إِلَى مَحْظُورٍ ، وَ لَا نَخْطُوَ بِأَقْدَامِنَا إِلَى مَحْجُورٍ ، وَ حَتَّى لَا تَعِيَ بُطُونُنَا إِلَّا مَا أَحْلَلْتَ ، وَ لَا تَنْطِقَ أَلْسِنَتُنَا إِلَّا بِمَا مَثَّلْتَ
And so that we undertake only what brings us closer to Your reward and pursue only what protects us from Your punishment. Then, purify all of that from the ostentation of the show-offs and the fame-seeking of those who seek repute.
Wa hatta la natakallafa illa ma yudni min thawabika, wa la nata’ata illal-ladhi yaqi min ‘iqabika, thumma khallis dhalika kullahu min ri’aal-mura’in, wa sum’atil-musmi’in.
وَ لَا نَتَكَلَّفَ إِلَّا مَا يُدْنِي مِنْ ثَوَابِكَ ، وَ لَا نَتَعَاطَى إِلَّا الَّذِي يَقِي مِنْ عِقَابِكَ ، ثُمَّ خَلِّصْ ذَلِكَ كُلَّهُ مِنْ رِئَاءِ الْمُرَاءِينَ ، وَ سُمْعَةِ الْمُسْمِعِينَ
Let us not associate any partner with You in it, nor seek therein any objective other than You.
La nushriku fihi ahadan dunaka, wa la nabtaghi fihi muradan siwaka.
لَا نُشْرِكُ فِيهِ أَحَداً دُونَكَ ، وَ لَا نَبْتَغِي فِيهِ مُرَاداً سِوَاكَ .
