Wednesday is the first day of Zoul-Hijjah 1446

Wednesday is the first day of Zoul-Hijjah 1446

Statement from the Religious Affairs Office at the Institution of the Eminent Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Month of Zoul-Hijjah 1446 A.H

The new crescent for the month of Zoul-Hijjah 1446 A.H. (central conjunction) will be born on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 03:02 AM Universal Time, which correspond to 06:02 AM Beirut time.

As shown in the attached image, the crescent will be easily visible with the naked eye on Tuesday evening in most areas of North America, and in the northern part of South America, parts of Africa, and Europe—provided the skies are clear and the observer is experienced. It will also be visible with the armed eye in many regions, such as some areas of Africa, and others.

These are regions with which we share part of the night. Thus, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, will be the first day of the month of Zoul-Hijjah 1446 A.H. for areas that share the night with the sighting regions—this includes both Eastern and Western regions.

This is based on the jurisprudential opinion of the late Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who held that the beginning of the month is established if the crescent can be sighted in any location in the world with which we share part of the night, regardless of whether the sighting is with the naked eye or with the armed one.

We ask Allah, the Most Exalted to grant the pilgrims of His Sacred House an accepted Hajj and a rewarded effort, and to bless all Muslims in their Hajj and Eid, and to bring relief, honor, and dignity to us. Truly, He is the All-Hearing, the Responsive.

Based on the statement issued regarding the beginning of the month of Zu al-Hijjah for the year 1446 A.H., which was determined to start on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Day of Arafah will fall on Thursday, June 5, 2025, and the blessed Eid al-Adha will be on Friday, June 6, 2025.

May Allah bring it back to all Muslims with goodness, blessings, honor, and victory. He is the Most Merciful of the merciful.

Wishing you all a blessed Eid.
