Sunday is the first day of Rajab 1447 A.H.

Sunday is the first day of Rajab 1447 A.H.

Sunday, December 21, 2025,

Statement of the Religious Authority Office at the Institution of the Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlullah (ra), regarding the Beginning of the Month of Rajab, 1447 AH:

The new crescent of the month of Rajab, 1447 AH (central conjunction) will be born on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 01:43 a.m. Universal Time, corresponding to 03:43 a.m. Beirut winter time.

As shown in the above-mentioned image, sighting the crescent on Saturday evening (the night of Sunday) is possible in many regions including Central and South America and a part of North America, reaching South Africa. The sighting can be with the naked eye or with the armed eye (such as telescopes). These are regions that share part of the night with us. Therefore, Sunday, December 21, 2025, will be the first day of the month of Rajab, 1447 AH.

This is based on the jurisprudential opinion of the late Religious Authority, Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah (ra), who held that the month begins if the crescent can be sighted in any location in the world, provided we share part of the night with it, regardless of whether the sighting is with the naked eye or with armed devices (such as telescopes).

We ask Allah, the Most Exalted, with the beginning of the virtuous months, for success to obey Him and the attain His Mercy in Rajab Al-Asabb (the month when mercy pours down). We also ask Him for preparation for the blessed month of Ramadan. We ask Allah, the Most Exalted, for relief and kindness, that He may ward off calamities from us, and grant us victory over the enemies. Indeed, He is All-Hearing and Responsive.
