Recommended Acts for the Day of Arafah

Recommended Acts for the Day of Arafah

First: Perform Ghusl (ritual bath).

Second: Visit the shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s.). There are many narrations highlighting the virtue of this visitation on this day. It is also recommended to recite the supplication attributed to him for the Day of Arafah.

Third: Fast on the Day of Arafah is recommended, as long as it does not weaken you from reciting the supplications.

Fourth: Pray a two-rak'ah prayer after the obligatory Asr prayer, under the open sky. In this prayer, confess your sins to Allah to gain the rewards of Arafat and achieve forgiveness.

How to perform the two-rak'ah prayer:

* First rak'ah: After Al-Fatiha, recite surat al-Tawhid.

* Second rak'ah: After Al-Fatiha, recite surat Al-Kafirun.

Another prayer has also been narrated:

Perform the Prayer of the Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali (a.s.).
It consists of four rak'ahs. In each rak'ah, after reciting Surat Al-Fatiha, recite Surat Al-Tawhid fifty times.

The Supplication After It:

Glory be to Him whose Throne is in the heavens.
Glory be to Him whose judgment prevails on the earth.
Glory be to Him whose decree is executed over the dead.
Glory be to Him who has set His path in the sea.
Glory be to Him who holds absolute authority over the fire.
Glory be to Him whose mercy encompasses Paradise.
Glory be to Him whose justice will manifest on the Day of Judgment.
Glory be to Him who raised the sky.
Glory be to Him who spread the earth.
Glory be to Him from whom there is no refuge or escape except to Him.

Then, recite the following 100 times each:

  • Subhan Allah, wal Hamdu Lillah, wa la Ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu Akbar (Glory be to Allah; all praise be to Allah; there is no god but Allah; and Allah is the Greatest)
  • Surah Al-Tawhid (Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad)
  • Ayat al-Kursi
  • Salawat (Blessings upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad).

Then, recite the following 10 times each:

  1. La ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu la sharika lah. Lahul mulku wa lahul hamd. Yuhyi wa yumit, wa yumit wa yuhyi, wa huwa hayyun la yamut. Biyadihil khayr, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir. (There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and causes death and gives life. He is the Living who never dies. In His hand is all good, and He has power over all things.)
  2. Astaghfirullah alladhi la ilaha illa huwal hayyul qayyum wa atubu ilayh. (I seek forgiveness from Allah, whom there is no god but He, the Living, the Sustainer, and I turn to Him in repentance.)
  3. Ya Allah (O Allah).
  4. Ya Rahman (O Beneficent).
  5. Ya Rahim (O Merciful).
  6. Ya Badi'as samawati wal ard, ya dhal jalali wal ikram (O Originator of the heavens and the earth, O Lord of Majesty and Generosity).
  7. Ya Hayyu ya Qayyum (O Living, O Sustainer).
  8. Ya Hannan ya Mannan (O Compassionate, O Gracious).
  9. Ya la ilaha illa ant (O He whom there is no god but You).
  10. Ameen (So be it).

Then, say:

"O Allah, I ask You. O He who is nearer to me than my jugular vein. O He who stands between a person and their heart. O He who is on the highest horizon and the clear horizon. O He who is the Beneficent, established on the Throne. O He like whom there is nothing, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. I ask You to send blessings upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad."

Then, ask for what you need. It will be granted, by the will of Allah Almighty.

It is also recommended to recite the supplication of Imam Hussein (a.s.) on the Day of Arafah:
