Imam Zein Al-Abideen's supplication on longing to seek forgiveness from Allah, the Most Exalted, His Majesty
Wa kaana min dua'aa-ihee 'alay-his-salaamu feelish-teeaaqi ilaa t'alabil-magh-firati minal-laahee jal-la jalaaluh.
دُعَائِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِي الِاشْتِيَاقِ إِلَى طَلَبِ الْمَغْفِرَةِ مِنَ اللَّهِ جَلَّ جَلَالُه
O Allah, Bless Muhammad and his Household, Guide us to the repentance that You love and make us leave the persistence that You hate!
Al-laahum-ma s'al-li 'alaa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalih wa s'ay-yir-naaa ilaa mah'-boobika minat-taw-bah wa azil-naa 'am-mak-roohika minal-is'-raar.
أَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَصَيِّرْنَـا إِلَى مَحْبُوبِكَ مِنَ التَّوْبَةِ وَأَزِلْنَا عَنْ مَكْرُوهِكَ مِنَ الْإصْرَارِ.
O Allah, When we halt before two shortages, in religion or in this world, let the shortage fall upon that which ceases to exist more quickly and repentance upon that which lasts the longer! When we set out after two concerns, one of which makes You pleased with us and the other of which displeases You, incline us towards that which makes You pleased and weaken our strength in that which displeases You! Leave not our souls alone to choose in that, for they choose falsehood except inasmuch as You give success, and they command to evil except inasmuch as You have mercy!
Al-laahum-ma wamataa waqaf-naa bay-na naq-s'ay-ni fee deenin aw dunyaa faaw-qii'n-naq-s'a bis-rai'himaa fanaa- waj-a'lit-tawbata feee at'-walihimaa baqaaa- wa id'aa hamam-naa biham-may-ni yur-z''eeka ah'aduhumaa 'an-naa wayuskhit'ukal-aaakharu 'alay-naa famil binaaa ilaa maa yur-z''eeka 'an-naa wa aw-hin qoo-watanaa 'am-maa yus-khit'uka 'alay-naa wa laa tukhal-li fee d'alika bay-na nufoosinaa wa akh-teeaarihaa fa in-nahaa mukhtaratu lil-baat'ili il-laa maa waf-faq-t am-maaratum-bis-sooo-i il-laa maa rah'im-t.
أَللَّهُمَّ وَمَتَى وَقَفْنَا بَيْنَ نَقْصَيْنِ فِي دِين أَوْ دُنْيَا فَأَوْقِعِ النَّقْصَ بِأَسْرَعِهِمَا فَنَاءً، وَاجْعَلِ التَّوْبَةَ فِي أَطْوَلِهِمَا بَقَاءً. وَإذَا هَمَمْنَا بِهَمَّيْنِ يُرْضِيكَ أَحَدُهُمَا عَنَّا وَيُسْخِطُكَ الْآخَرُ عَلَيْنَا، فَمِلْ بِنَا إِلَى مَا يُرْضِيْكَ عَنَّا، وَأَوْهِنْ قُوَّتَنَا عَمَّا يُسْخِطُكَ عَلَيْنَا، وَلَا تُخَلِّ فِي ذلِكَ بَيْنَ نُفُوسِنَا وَاخْتِيَارِهَا؛ فَإِنَّهَا مُخْتَارَةٌ لِلْبَاطِلِ إِلَّا مَا وَفَّقْتَ أَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ إِلَّا مَا رَحِمْتَ.
O Allah, You created us from frailty, built us up from feebleness, and began us from a mean water; we have no force except through Your strength and no strength except through Your help. Grant us Your success, guide us to Your right way, blind our hearts from anything opposing Your love, and set not in any of us an ability to disobey You!
Al-laahum-ma wa in-naka minaz''-z''a'-fi khalaq-tanaa wa 'alaal-wah-ni banay-tanaa wa mim-maaa-im-maheeninb-tadaa-tanaa falaa h'aw-la lanaaa il-laa biqoo-watik wa laa qoo-wata lanaaa il-laa bia'w-nik. Faay-yid-naa bitaw-feeqik wa sad-did-naa bitas-deedik wa aa'-mi ab-s'aara quloobinaa 'am-maa khaalafa mah'b-batak wa laa taj-a'l-lishay-im-min jawaarih'inaa nufood'an fee maa'-s'eeatik.
اللَّهُمَّ وَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الضَّعْفِ خَلَقْتَنَا، وَعَلَى الْوَهْنِ بَنَيْتَنَا، وَمِنْ مَهِين ابْتَدَأتَنَا، فَلَا حَوْلَ لَنَا إِلَّا بِقُوَّتِكَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ لَنَا إِلَّا بِعَوْنِكَ. فَأَيِّدْنَا بِتَوْفِيقِكَ وَسَدِّدْنَا بِتَسْدِيدِكَ وَأَعْمِ أَبْصَارَ قُلُوبِنَا عَمَّا خَالَفَ مَحَبَّتَكَ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ جَوَارِحِنَا نُفُوذاً فِي مَعْصِيَتِكَ.
O Allah, Bless Muhammad and his Household, and assign the whisperings of our hearts, the movements of our organs, the glances of our eyes, and the speeches of our tongues, to that which makes incumbent Your reward, let not a good deed slip by us, through which we might deserve Your repayment, or an evil deed remain with us, by which we might merit Your punishment!
Al-laahum-ma fas'al-li 'alaa muh'am-madiw-wa aaalihee waj-a'l hamasaati quloobinaa wa h'arakaati aa'-z''aaa-inaa wa lamah'aati aa'-yuninaa wa lahajaati al-sinatinaa fee moojibaati thawaabik h'at-taa laa tafootanaa h'asanatun-nas-tah'iq-qu bihaa jazaaa-ak wa laa tab-qaa lanaa say-yi-atun-nas-tawjibu bihaa 'iqaabak.
اللَّهُمَّ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَاجْعَلْ هَمَسَاتِ قُلُوبِنَا وَحَرَكَاتِ أَعْضَائِنَا، وَلَمَحَاتِ أَعْيُنِنَا، وَلَهَجَاتِ أَلْسِنَتِنَا فِي مُوجِبَاتِ ثَوَابِكَ، حَتَّى لَا تَفُوتَنَا حَسَنَةٌ نَسْتَحِقُّ بِهَا جَزَآءَكَ، وَلَا تَبْقَى لَنَا سَيِّئـةٌ نَسْتَوْجِبُ بِهَا عِقَابَكَ.
