His Supplication When Facing Hostility or Witnessing the Evils of Wrongdoers
Min du‘ā’ihi idhā ‘tudiya ‘alayhi aw ra’ā min al-ẓālimīna mā lā yuḥibb.
مِنْ دُعَائِهِ إِذَا اعْتُدِيَ عَلَيْهِ أَوْ رَأَى مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ مَا لَا يُحِبُّ
In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
O He who is not unaware of the complaints of the wronged! O He who is not in need of the witness’s testimony for their accounts! O He whose help is near to the wronged! O He whose support is far from the wrongdoers!
Yā man lā yakhfā ‘alayhi anbā’u al-mutaẓallimīn, wa yā man lā yaḥtāju fī qiṣaṣihim ilā shahādāti al-shāhidīn, wa yā man qarubat nuṣratuhu min al-maẓlūmīn, wa yā man ba‘uda ‘awnuhu ‘an al-ẓālimīn.
يَامَنْ لاَ يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ أَنْبَآءُ الْمُتَظَلِّمِينَ وَيَا مَنْ لاَ يَحْتَاجُ فِي قِصَصِهِمْ إلَى شَهَادَاتِ الشَّاهِدِينَ وَيَا مَنْ قَرُبَتْ نُصْرَتُهُ مِنَ الْمَظْلُومِينَ وَيَا مَنْ بَعُدَ عَوْنُهُ عَنِ الظَّالِمِينَ
My God, You know what [so-and-so son of so-and-so] has done to me—How he has transgressed what You have prohibited and violated what You have safeguarded for me, in insolence toward Your blessing upon him and heedlessness toward Your vengeance against him.
Qad ‘alimta yā ilāhī mā nālanī min [fulān ibn fulān] mimmā ḥaẓarta wa-ntahakahu minnī mimmā ḥajazta ‘alayhi baṭaran fī ni‘matika ‘indahu wa-ghtirāran bi-nakīrika ‘alayhi.
قَدْ عَلِمْتَ يَا إلهِي مَا نالَنِي مِنْ [فُلاَنِ بْنِ فُلاَن] مِمَّا حَظَرْتَ وَانْتَهَكَهُ مِنّي مِمَّا حَجَزْتَ عَلَيْهِ بَطَراً فِي نِعْمَتِكَ عِنْدَهُ وَاغْتِرَاراً بِنَكِيرِكَ عَلَيْهِ.
So, O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, Seize my wrongdoer and enemy for his wronging me through Your strength, Blunt his blade toward me through Your power, Give him preoccupation with what concerns him, and incapacity for what he intends against me!
Fa-ṣalli Allāhumma 'alā Muḥammadin wa ālihī, wa khudh ẓālimī wa 'aduwwī 'an ẓulmī bi-quwwatika, wa aflul ḥaddahu 'annī bi-qudratika, wa-j'al lahu shughlan fīmā yalīhi wa 'ajzan 'ammā yunāwīhī.
فَصَلِّ اللَّهُمَّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، وَخُذْ ظَالِمِي وَعَدُوِّي عَنْ ظُلْمِي بِقُوَّتِكَ وَافْلُلْ حَدَّهُ عَنِّي بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَاجْعَلْ لَهُ شُغْلاً فِيَما يَلِيهِ وَعَجْزاً عَمَّا يُناوِيْهِ.
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, Do not make easy for him my wrong, Make beautiful for me Your help against him, Preserve me from the like of his acts, and do not let me be in the like of his state!
Allāhumma wa ṣalli 'alā Muḥammadin wa ālihī, wa lā tusawwigh lahu ẓulmī, wa aḥsin 'alayhi 'awnī, wa'ṣim-nī min mithli af'ālihī, wa lā taj'alnī fī mithli ḥālihī.
أللَّهُمَّ وَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَلاَ تُسَوِّغْ لَهُ ظُلْمِي وَأَحْسِنْ عَلَيْـهِ عَوْنِي، وَاعْصِمْنِي مِنْ مِثْـلِ أَفْعَالِهِ، وَلا تَجْعَلْنِي فِي مِثْلِ حَالِهِ.
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, Repay me against him with a present retaliation that will be a healing for my rage against him and a repayment for my fury toward him!
Allāhumma ṣalli 'alā Muḥammadin wa ālihī, wa a'idnī 'alayhi 'adwā ḥāḍiratan takūnu min ghaiẓī bihī shifā'an, wa min ḥanaqī 'alayhi wafā'an.
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، وَأَعِدْنِي عَلَيْهِ عَدْوى حَاضِرَةً تَكُونُ مِنْ غَيْظِي بِهِ شِفَاءً، وَمِنْ حَنَقِي عَلَيْهِ وَفَاءً.
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, Compensate me for his wronging me with Your pardon, Replace his evil action toward me with Your mercy! For every detested thing is insignificant beside Your wrath, and every disaster is the same with Your anger.
Allāhumma ṣalli 'alā Muḥammadin wa ālihī wa 'awwiḍnī min ẓulmihī lī 'afwaka, wa abdilnī bi-sū'i ṣanī'ihī bī raḥmataka, fa-kullu makrūhin jalalun dūna sakhaṭika, wa kullu marzi'atin sawā'un ma'a mawjidatika.
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ وَعَوِّضْنِي مِنْ ظُلْمِهِ لِي عَفْوَكَ، وَأَبْدِلْنِي بِسُوْءِ صنِيعِهِ بِيْ رَحْمَتَكَ، فَكُلُّ مَكْرُوه جَلَلٌ دُونَ سَخَطِكَ، وَكُلُّ مَرْزِئَة سَوَاءٌ مَعَ مَوْجِدَتِكَ.
O God, just as You have made detestable to me to wrong, preserve me from being wronged!
Allāhumma fa-kamā karrahta ilayya an aẓlima fa-qinī min an uẓlam.
أللَّهُمَّ فَكَمَا كَـرَّهْتَ إلَيَّ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ فَقِنِي مِنْ أَنْ أُظْلَمَ.
O God, I complain to none but You, and I seek no judge but You—far be it otherwise! So, bless Muhammad and his Household, Join my supplication to response, and couple my complaint with change!
Allāhumma lā ashkū ilā aḥadin siwāka, wa lā asta'īnu biḥākamin ghayrika ḥāshāka, fa-ṣalli 'alā Muḥammadin wa ālihī, wa ṣil du'ā'ī bil-ijābati, wa aqrin shikāyatī bit-taghayyuri.
أللَّهُمَّ لاَ أَشْكُوإلَى أَحَد سِوَاكَ، وَلاَ أَسْتَعِينُ بِحَاكِم غَيْرِكَ حَاشَاكَ فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، وَصِلْ دُعَائِي بِالاجَابَةِ، وَأَقْرِنْ شِكَايَتِي بِالتَّغْيِيرِ.
O God, try me not with despair of Your justice, and try him not with security from Your vengeance, lest he persist in wronging me and withhold my right!
Allāhumma lā tuftinnī bil-qunūṭi min inṣāfika, wa lā tuftinhu bil-amni min inkārika, fa-yuṣirra 'alā ẓulmī wa yuḥāḍiranī bi-ḥaqqī.
أَللَّهُمَّ لا تَفْتِنِّي بِالْقُنُوطِ مِنْ إنْصَافِكَ، وَلاَ تَفْتِنْـهُ بِالاَمْنِ مِنْ إنْكَارِكَ، فَيُصِرَّ عَلَى ظُلْمِي وَيُحَاضِرَنِي بِحَقِّيْ
Make him aware of what You have promised the wrongdoers after a little, and make me aware of what You have promised in answering the distressed!
Wa 'arrifhu 'ammā qalīlin mā wa'adt-aẓ-ẓālimīn, wa 'arrifnī mā wa'att-a min ijābat-il-muḍṭarrīn.
وَعَرِّفْهُ عَمَّا قَلِيْل مَا أَوْعَدْتَ الظَّالِمِينَ، وَعَرِّفْنِي مَا وَعَدْتَ مِنْ إجَابَةِ الْمُضْطَرِّينَ.
O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, give me success to accept what You have decreed for me and against me, make me pleased with what You have taken and given from me, and guide me to that which is most upright! Employ me in that which is safest!
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ālihī, wa waffiqnī li-qabūli mā qaḍayta lī wa ʿalayya, wa raḍḍinī bimā akhadhta lī wa minnī, wahdinī lil-latī hiya aqwamu wastaʿmilnī bimā huwa aslamu
أللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، وَوَفِّقْنِي لِقَبُولِ مَا قَضَيْتَ لِيْ وَعَليَّ، وَرَضِّنِيْ بِمَا أَخَذْتَ لي وَمِنِّي وَاهْـدِنِي لِلَّتِيْ هِي أَقْوَمُ وَاسْتَعْمِلْنِي بِمَا هُوَ أَسْلَمُ.
O God, if the choice is Yours concerning deferring my retaliation and leaving vengeance against him who has wronged me until the Day of Division and the disputants’ gathering, then bless Muhammad and his Household, confirm me with a sincere intention and constant patience from You, give me refuge from evil desire and the panic of the greedy, depict within my heart the likeness of what You have stored up for me in Your reward and prepared for my adversary in Your recompense and punishment, and make that a cause of my satisfaction with Your decree and my trust in what You have chosen!
Allāhumma wa in kānat al-khīratu lī ʿindaka fī taʾkhīr al-akhdhi lī wa tark al-intiqāmi mimman ẓalamanī ilā yawm al-faṣli wa majmaʿ al-khaṣmi, fa-ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ālihī, wa ayyidnī minka bi-niyyatin ṣādiqatin wa ṣabrin dāʾimin, wa aʿidhnī min sūʾi al-raghbati, wa halaʿi ahli al-ḥirṣi, wa ṣawwir fī qalbī mithāla mā iddakharta lī min thawābika, wa aʿdadt-a li-khaṣmī min jazāʾika wa ʿiqābika, wa-jʿal dhālika sababan li-qanāʿatī bimā qaḍayta, wa thiqatī bimā takhayyarta.
أللَّهُمَّ وَإنْ كَانَتِ الْخِيَرَةُ لِيْ عِنْدَكَ فِي تَأْخِيرِ الاَخْذِ لِي وَتَرْكِ الانْتِقَامِ مِمَّنْ ظَلَمَنِيْ إلَى يَوْمِ الْفَصْلِ وَمَجْمَعِ الْخَصْمِ، فَصَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّد وَآلِهِ، وَأَيِّدْنِي مِنْكَ بِنِيَّة صَادِقَة وَصَبْر دَائِم، وَأَعِذْنِي مِنْ سُوءِ الرَّغْبَةِ، وَهَلَعِ أَهْلِ الْحِرْصِ، وَصَوِّرْ فِي قَلْبِي مِثَالَ مَا ادَّخَـرْتَ لِي مِنْ ثَوَابِـكَ، وَأَعْدَدْتَ لِخَصْمِي مِنْ جَزَائِكَ وَعِقَابِكَ، وَاجْعَلْ ذَلِكَ سَبَباً لِقَنَاعَتِي بِمَا قَضَيْتَ، وَثِقَتِي بِمَا تَخَيَّرْتَ،
Amen, Lord of the worlds! You are of immense bounty, and You have power over everything!
Āmīn rabba al-ʿālamīn, innaka dhū al-faḍli al-ʿaẓīm, wa anta ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr.
آمِينَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ، إنَّكَ ذُوالْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء قَدِيرٌ.
